The father of Real Madrid playmaker James Rodriguez, Wilson Rodriguez, has maintained his son has no plans of leaving the Spanish side anytime soon, despite apparent interest from elsewhere.
The 25-year-old midfield wizard has been very vocal regarding his frustration over the lack of his playing time in recent weeks, which is understandable given he has only been handed five starts across all competitions this season so far.
This is thought to have put a handful of clubs, including Premier League heavyweights Chelsea and Manchester United, on high alert, with the two rich sides keen on splashing the cash to acquire the Colombian’s services.
But the older Rodriguez is determined to quell the speculation regarding his son’s immediate future, who was quoted as saying by Spanish daily AS: “He has a commitment with Real Madrid, he has a contract. He is going to stay with the club.
“We were together during the holidays and I saw he was very happy. He will continue working with Real Madrid,” the father added.
Real Madrid, for their part, will be keen to put this ongoing transfer saga to rest as soon as possible, as they seek to clinch another Spanish league title.
James signed for Los Blancos in July of 2014 from Ligue 1 side Monaco amid much fanfare. The midfielder’s contract with the club is set to expire in 2020.
