Championship table toppers dropped more points yesterday evening following an enthralling 2-1 defeat to Nottingham Forest.
The Magpies kept their fellow Premier League alumni out with two penalties saves, they did however make like extremely difficult for themselves by having two men sent off.
Referee for the night Steve Martin sent both Jonjo Shelvey and Paul Dummett for an early bath all before the halftime whistle had been sounded. Remarkably it didn’t stop the Magpies going in for the break a goal to the good as Matt Ritchie sneaked on in just before the whistle.
Despite the best efforts of the remaining players and a star turn from the goalkeeper, Forest eventually over came their opponents with goals from Bendtner and a late OG via Lascelles.
Heroic in defeat, it didn’t stop Newcastle United fans showing their anger towards the nights referee on Twitter for ruining proceedings so early on.
Hilariously, Newcastle fans instead honed in on former SNL stalwart and fellow namesake Steve Martin as the subject of their frustrations. Understating that much of the unwarranted abuse he had received may infact be for somebody else, Martin laughed it of by simply suggesting English football fans might not want to watch his movies anymore.
