Manchester United and Chelsea have entered the race for the signature of Monaco’s midfielder Tiemoué Bakayoko, the Sun reports.
Monaco had a superb run this season in all competitions, sitting on the 2nd place in Ligue 1 and reaching the Round of 16 in Champions League.
Tiemoué Bakayoko was one of the main providers of Leonardo Jardim’s side’s succes, with the highest WhoScored rating in the team – 7.51. The central midfielder has also represented France at U21 level.
Manchester United is now looking for a replacement for Michael Carrick, who’s career at Old Trafford is nearing to an end, with Morgan Schneiderlin was also given a green light to leave Manchester.
Bakayoko is now Mourinho’s top target for this position and the Red Devils hope to sign the Frenchman next summer.
The 22-year-old will cost around £35m, but Mourinho will reportedly have more than £180 in 2017 for summer spendings.
Premier League leaders Chelsea are also eyeing to sign the French midfielder. Antonio Conte travelled to France this month to watch Monaco’s two players – Tiemoué Bakayoko and Djibril Sidibé. The London side have bagged £60m for the transfer of Oscar to Shanghai SIPG and are planning to strengthen their squad.
