The mother of Real Madrid sensation James Rodriguez has moved to quell the growing speculation regarding her son’s future by insisting the player is in England only for the holidays.
Rumours regarding Rodriguez’s pending departure from the Santiago Bernabeu grew louder on Tuesday, when the 25-year-old playmaker was spotted in England. Prior to this, Rodriguez has been hinting about a possible move away from Real Madrid.
A handful of English clubs are thought to be keen on signing the Colombian international, with Chelsea and Manchester United believed to be sorting out a deal with Los Blancos.
But Rodriguez’s mum, in an interview with Colombian daily El Tiempo, has gone forward to dismiss such claims, saying the player is in England to get in touch with his friend and Arsenal goalkeeper David Ospina. Ospina and Rodriguez are teammates in the Colombia national team.
“He will be returning to Colombia soon after,” Rodriguez’s mother Pilar Rubio added. “We will be having Christmas at home in Medellin.”
Whether Pilar Rubio’s statement will indeed silence the rumours surrounding her child’s future, however, is still uncertain considering Rodriguez himself revealed after Real Madrid’s Club World Cup win that he has taken a seven-day leave with the club to think about his options.
Rodriguez signed for Real Madrid in 2014 for an estimated fee of 75 million Euros – the 10-time Champions League winners having made the move after the midfield wizard’s stellar showing at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
