Having played a central part in one of the greatest seasons in the clubs history, Dutchman Wesley Sneijder has always been seen, by club outsiders at least, as a genuine Inter Milan hero.
The talented play-maker made 76 appearances for Inter between 2009 and 2014, culminating in a Serie Atitle, two Coppa Italia’s, a Supercoppa Italiana, a FIFA Club World Cup and, most impressively, a UEFA Champions League.
A trophy haul more than satisfactory for any fellow professional. It seems however, Wesley would give it all back for a chance to have done it all with fierce rivals AC.
No doubt fuelled with the fact that he fell foul of the clubs hierarchy due to contract renewal issues prior to a bitter exit in 2013, Sneijder admitted that he only ever dreamed of playing for the Rossoneri as a boy.
Talking to Gazzetta dello Sport before th sides 2-2 draw at the weekend, the former Ajax prodigy commented:
At Inter I gave everything, I put my heart into it, but it didn’t finish well. I felt trampled.
Playing for Milan was my dream when I was a child. So yes, if I went back to Italy I would want to play for Milan.
I don’t think I will come back [to Inter]. I left after a dispute, and as I said I would like to play for Milan before finishing my career.
I am old but I can still play. I watch matches from the Italian League and I understand that it isn’t what it was five years ago.
There is less quality, but Milan is legendary for me.
Charming stuff.
Despite his slight reservations given his 32-years of age, it seems Sneijder is more than willing to consider the famous red and black of Milan, even if he just totally slagged of the league in which they lay.
