Dortmund chief refutes claims that Usain Bolt trial is anything but serious

It’s largely been treated as joke around social media, nevertheless, Usain Bolt’s causal foray into the world of professional football is being taken deadly serious if the comments of Dortmund’s chief executive are anything to go buy.

Hans-Joachim Watzke rebuffed any suggestions that the record winning Olympian’s up and coming trial with the club was purely set up as a PR stunt when speaking to Kicker magazine on Sunday.

However, with the club sharing links with Puma along with Bolt, Watzke was quick to admit the move was organised through the sports wear manufacturer.

‘We decided this some time ago. Puma CEO Bjorn Gulden, who is member of our board, has told us that Usain is highly interested in practising with us.

“For us that’s no problem. Our coach Thomas Tuchel likes the idea as well. Of course he won’t visit us in an important week with Champions League matches but maybe in the pre-season. We are delighted and take this as an honour.’

Asked the million dollar question whether Bolt could have a future in Dortmund, Watzke replied: “We don’t even need to talk about it.”

Seems like a fairly casual arrangement to us. Not that you can bet Bolt won’t be trying his darnedest to grab a contract despite the odds.
