A tribute to the late great Carlos Alberto

As if 2016 hadn’t been an utter bastard enough of a year already, news broke this morning that Brazilian legend Carlos Alberto has passed away at the age of 72.

A main-stay in possibly the greatest international side of all time, Alberto’s talents as Brazil’s ultimate flying wing back would see him go on to claim a 1970 World Cup winners medal as his sides captain.

His crowing moment of course being this expertly converted driven finish in the final against Italy, one of footballs truly great moments.

Representing la Selecao on no less than 50 occasions, the defender would also go on to claim a successful career at club level, winning Brazilian championships with both Fluminense and Santos before joining many of his internationally recognised contemporaries of the time in US’s NASL with New York Cosmos

Carlos will no doubt be sadly missed by the football fraternity.

Here’s some blinding pictures of the man in his pomp.
