Many footballer’s suffer injuries which end their careers even though they aren’t huge injuries to overcome. It takes a great deal of determination to come back after such injuries, and the fact that Steve Stone suffered three broken leg incidents at the beginning of his career is amazing on its own accord.

He managed to go past these troubles and become a crucial part of the Nottingham Forest for large periods during the 90s. Even though he had reoccurring injury problems, he continued to come back even stronger than before. He was ever-present in the Forest side in Brian Clough’s final years, and stayed after the club got relegated from the inaugural Premier League season in 1993.

Following their promotion and second relegation in 1999, he parted ways with the club after getting sold to Aston Villa for £5.5 millions. It didn’t take a long time for him to cement his place in the team, but he fell out of favour at his third season with Villans. Shipped out to Portsmouth, he featured heavily in the team that secured promotion to the Premier League ahead of the 2003-04 season, despite new injury problems

He ended his career at Leeds and went into coaching for Newcastle’s reserves before taking a first team coach role for five years from 2010 to 2015.

High point: Taking part in multiple promotions throughout his career.
Low point: Finally succumbing to his injuries and retiring prematurely in 2007.
