Watch: Wayne Rooney promised (ish) to retire from England duty after 2018 campaign

Following an actual half decent showing in England colours during a dour Euro 2016 campaign, Wayne Rooney has promised the footballing public that he sees the countries World Cup 2018 campaign as his last.

While he didn’t exactly add his John Hancock to a binding contract, the former Evertonian revealed that he had given some serious thought, informing journo’s ahead of the weeks World Cup qualifiers that he feels the end of the 2018 group stage will probably be the right time to bow out.

Maybe, just maybe we’ll miss him when he’s gone, and he is indeed England’s record goal scorer, fact is however the striker has been nothing but bang average for five years now.
