Watch: Neymar nets penalty winner as Brazil claim Olympic gold

It seems barely any time has past since the superstar was being roundly booed by home supporters, now Neymar has become the big Brazilian cheese yet again after firing home the winning penalty in the Olympic final.

Brazil claimed their win via a dramatic shootout win over Germany following a 1-1 draw in normal time.

Naturally the Barcelona striker would open the scoring for his side.

Only for Max Meyer to peg the home side back with a clipped finish.

Despite being buoyed on by an expectant crowd, Brazil struggled to force through a second, leading to extra time and then penalties.

The shoot-out saw both side’s first four penalty takers all score (including Arsenal’s Serge Gnabry), before Freiburg striker Nils Petersen saw his effort saved superbly by Weverton.

Which of course led to the man of the moment converting to give his side Gold.

Naturally the finish sent the side into absolute hysterics, with the famous Maracana featuring some genuinely touching tears of joy.. Having been written off following subsequent World Cup and Copa America exits, and, whilst the Olympics of course can really only be considered an u-23 tournament, the country will be delighted to have something at least mildly encouraging following some truly dark footballing years.
