Crystal Palace agree £27m fee plus add-ons for Liverpool striker Christian Benteke

[dropcap]C[/dropcap]rystal Palace have agreed a massive £27m fee plus up to £5m in add-ons for burly striker Christian Benteke.

The Belgium’s fleeting Liverpool career had seemed at it’s end ever since Jurgen Klopp took over to the Anfield club last season, just priotr to the German’s arrival the side had forked out a massive £32.5million following some impressive form for then premier League stragglers Aston Villa.

Palace failed earlier in the week with a bid of £23million plus £7million of add-ons, with Reds officials deeming the numbers to be somewhat unrealistic. Perhaps given the Eagle’s poor opening season defeat to West Brom, Pardew needed to do little convincing he needed reinforcements up front, hence the club returning to Liverpool with an improved offer.

With Daniel Sturridge, Danny Ings, Divock Origi, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino all ahead of Benteke in the Anfield pecking order, it’s believed that the player has seen his career away from the club for some while. Whilst he only scored 10 goals in 42 matches for the Merseysiders, a lack of suitability for Klopp’s methods, rather than his overall ability, has seemed his downfall.

Benteke is scheduled to travel to London for a medical on Friday.

So what do we think Palace fans? A decent addition to the first team squad, or should Palace have splurged that cash on two or three other players?
