West Ham switch focus to Mario Gomez

West Ham United are set to battle it out with Besiktas for the services of Fiorentina striker Mario Gomez. The Hammers have turned their attention towards the German after they missed out on Michy Batshuayi.

Slaven Bilic’s team were hot on the trail of Batshuayi last week before Chelsea intervened to scupper the deal at the final hurdle. The youngster has since undergone a medical and penned a five-year contract with the Stamford Bridge outfit.

The Hammers have now shifted their focus to La Viola hitman Gomez, who had an impressive loan stint with Besiktas last term, The Express reports. Gomez is currently rated in the region of £4m, and this puts the East Londoners in the front seat, with Besiktas in a fragile position over the Financial Fair Play ruling.

The 30-year-old amassed an admirable tally of 26 goals for the Black Eagles as they first league title in seven seasons last term.

Gomez is expected to feature for Germany when they take on one of France or Iceland in the semi-finals of the European championships.
