Liverpool Sign Mainz stopper Loris Karius.

Whilst Jurgen Klopp’s repeated rigid defence of flappy handed goalkeeper Simon Mignolet was admirable, we all knew that the German’s first transfer of the new season would be to address the grim goalkeeping situation at Liverpool.

Step forward former Mainz stopper Loris Karius.

Signed for £4.7m, the 22 year old, who previously spent time with Manchester City as a teenager, has instantly been awarded the number one shirt after a fine season with the Bundesliga outfit.

A decent shot stopper with good feet, Karius played all of his former clubs games for the 2015/16 season, becoming a vital cog in a side that finished in an impressive 6th position. Whilst the stopper isn’t expected to claim the number one spot from Mignolet immediately, the two will battle it out for the coveted position when the new season commences.

The keeper is Klopp’s third signing since taking over in October, having already secured deals in January for the Schalke centre-back Joel Matip and the Red Star Belgrade midfielder Marko Grujic to join this summer.

Speaking to Liverpoolfc.com, Karius commented on his big move.

“It’s a very good feeling and it’s an honour to play for a club like this, I know a lot about the club from watching them on TV. The history, everybody who plays football knows. There are a lot of things in my head when I think of this club.

“I spoke to the manager and I had a good feeling afterwards because he told me what he wants to do with the club and with the players. It was a good talk with him and after that I was convinced this was the right decision.”
