Carli Lloyd secures USA the 2015 World Cup with half way line howitzer against Japan #USWNT

The good old US of A claimed the Women’s World Cup in the most emphatic of ways after trouncing Japan 5-2 under the Vancouver sunshine yesterday.

The match was as good as won just 16 minutes in, when the US raced into a 4-0 lead courtesy of a Carli Lloyd hat trick. The 32 year old’s dream match was capped magnificently by one of the greatest goals ever scored in a tournament final.

With a Japanese attack breaking down within their opponents half, Lloyd can be seen retrieving a loose ball before powering an effort over the hapless keeper to claim her third of the match.

As if her afternoon couldn’t get any more surreally perfect, the effort was enough to secure her the honour of the tournaments joint top scorer along with Germany’s Celia Sasic.

Blinding afternoon.
